We Are Back to Our Abandoned Land in Spain

Reading time: 3 minutes

We are back in our abandoned lands in Spain, and this article is about our return.

After a long year of hard work to raise capital for the next phase of the Eridu Life project, we are finally back.

There were several factors that forced us to change plans and bring the date forward to February 2024.

High cost of living in the UK;
Lack of continuous work;
Beginning of recession in the economy;
Rumors of an upcoming pandemic;

And so on.

These were some of the factors we took into consideration to make the bold decision of leaving the UK behind during winter.

We Are Back to Our Abandoned Land in Spain

Leaving the UK behind and starting the year in Spain was a bold decision, as it’s february, it’s winter, it’s cold and it rains a lot this time of the year.

Even with all these challenges we are happy to be back.

As we no longer have a permanent address in the UK, doing the rehabilitation of the stone house became our priority.

In 2020 we sold our house, paid off our debts and invested what was left in the Finca.

Now we need a place to live and call it home.

You can learn more about us and why chose this abandoned land in Spain and this beautiful stone house to be our home.

Where to Live During the Restoration?

First of all, we need a temporary place to live during the restoration of the Finca.

We can’t build a wood cabin.

So, the simplest solution we found was to buy a caravan in the UK and then bring it to Spain.

That’s what we did. We bought a used caravan.

With the caravan we now have a dry and comfortable place to live.

It is a temporarily solution that will serve us during not only the rehabilitation of the stone house, but also during the restoration of the Finca.

In the video below, you will see our arrival at the Finca with the caravan firsthand. It was not a straight forward job.

In the video you will also see:

What was it like to sleep the first night in the caravan;
How the land was at the time we arrived;
How many snakes were inside the cistern;
Why we chose the name Eridu for the project;

There is a Lot to be Done

On the video you will explore the land together with us, as this was the first time we`ve been at the Finca for while.

The place been abandoned. Many things need to be done.

To avoid being overwhelmed or stresse during the restoration projects, we will follow the steps of the plans for the future article.

That way things will be smoother.

Among the various challenges, dealing with snakes is necessary, and I still don’t know how I’m going to do it.

Maybe clean around the house?
Maybe get some cats or chickens?

I will soon find a solution not only for this problem but for all problems that will occur.

That’s it for this article. Did you like it?
