This week we are upgrading the water system on our Spanish farm.
With this upgrade the water delivery will become much easier.
Problem
Since we started restoring the Finca, we have been transporting water and delivering it in small quantities by hand, which has become a significant challenge.
Now that we’re spending more time working on various projects at our abandoned farm in Spain, the need to upgrade the water system has become essential.
This upgrade is about ensuring a self-sustainable and self-sufficient future.
Dismantling the Old Platform
We started this project by dismantling the old platform and reusing all the materials in the new platform.
We’re doing this because we do not need to buy anything, since the IBC tote is already washed, wrapped and ready to use on the new platform.
Building the New Platform
Before building the new platform, I need to build a ladder to access the terrace where the IBC will be located.
The process of building the new platform is simple.
First I level the ground. Then I place the concrete blocks on the level surface.
After that, I install or place the cage on top of the leveled concrete blocks.
Moving the IBC Tote
Before moving the IBC tank to the new Platform I do a few things.
For example:
If the cage has a wooden pallet, I treat the wood with engine oil.
After checking that everything is in order, I then install the IBC tote on the new Platform.
Doing the Plumbing
Once the construction part of the new Platform is finished, I then start digging the trenches and doing the plumbing.
The plumbing is divided into several parts.
• Piping;
• Connections;
• Valves;
• Taps;
At first, I had a hard time understanding how to set up this water system to have running water at our Spanish farm.
Now that I’ve been doing it for a while, I repeat the same process I’ve learned for all the platforms.
This way, the job becomes easier.
Transporting Water
Now that the new platform, IBC tote, plumbing, valves and taps are installed and ready to use, it’s time to pickup the car and trailer and get water at the local village.
From now on, I’ll be using the car with trailer to collect, transport and delivery water.
On each trip, I can transport up to 600 liters of water at a time due weight limitation.
The first water collection, transport and delivery was a success and we now have running water at our Spanish farm.
Upgrading the Water System
There’s a reason why I had to upgrade the water system. I’ve recorded a video explaining why.
Watch the video:
The video above is a summary of everything that happened during this water system upgrade project on our Spanish farm.
Conclusion
In this article I’ve talked about the water system upgrade. With this upgrade project, life will become much easier at our Spanish farm.
