Living Off The Grid: A Simple Guide

In the hustle and bustle of modern life, the idea of ​​living off the grid has become increasingly attractive to many people.

Choosing this lifestyle involves adapting to an independent and self-sufficient life without being connected to electricity or water.

Life off the grid will allow you to not only live a simpler life, but at the same time it will connect you to nature.

When we bought our abandoned land in Spain we have to research and learn a lot. This article is to share some of what we learned so far.

Living Off The Grid

Living off-grid is different them living in a city, where your home runs on electricity and water that are attached to the utility services.

True life off the grid means you are completely disconnected from utility services, living an independent and self-sufficient life.

Definition of Off-Grid Living

For me the definition live off-grid is to live life at your own terms. This includes building your own cabin, growing your own food, producing your own electricity, having your own water supply, and surely being 100% self-sufficient.

At least that is what we are trying to do on our abandoned farm in Spain.

Steps to Live Off The Grid

Going to live off grid is not a straightaway path. There are choices that you need to make, and thereafter steps that you need to take in order for you to succeed. Some of the steps are:

Check your Astrocartograph Lines

Astrocartography is a method that reveals optimal locations on Earth based on your birth chart. It’s like having a cosmic real estate agent that helps you find the best location for your goals and dreams. These locations are linked to your soul’s needs and wants. My wife Agnes is an expert in astrocartography. Thanks to her work we found our abandoned land in our best location.

Finding and Buying a Property

Once you find you best location, the next step is finding and buying a piece of land that suits your needs, wants and your budget. The rules and regulations vary greatly from state to state and from county to county. It’s essential to check with your local authorities to see the legislation in your area.

Building a Suitable Dwelling

Once you have your land, the next step is to choose a dwelling that you can live in comfortably and legally. This could be a mobile home, a tiny house, a container home or a caravan. In our case we are restoring a 300 years old stone house.

Setting Up Infrastructure

Off-grid living requires setting up the infrastructure for water and electricity. This could involve collecting and filtering rainwater, installing solar panels and batteries. Having a generator as a backup power is a good idea. You may also need to consider waste disposal.

Growing Your Own Food

One of the most rewarding aspects of life off grid is growing your own food. In our case we`ll be doing the food garden once the stone house is restored. Planting a vegetables garden will not only provides you with fresh produce but also contributes to your self-sufficiency.

Generating Income

Make money while living off-grid is essential for thriving. You can earn money, and there are many ways to do it. There are many off-gridders generating income from their land or skills. They`re growing and selling food, raising livestock, offering online courses. Some are even creating youtube content, like we`re doing.
